Re-Creation 5: Re-created Constructed Reality

Original Photos:

Re-Creation:

I put my own spin on the style of photographer Jan Groover. The photos I seen of hers were all of simple  subject matter, and seemed to attempt to make objects like food and silverware interesting and artistic. There was an emphasis on abstract set-ups as well. Photos with other subject matter seemed to keep a focus on lines and simplicity. She was trained as a painter and uses her art background to make historical art references in her photographs. Groover was born in New Jersey in 1943.

  1. I love this picture! I think you captured the essence of Jan Groover with the shadows and coloration. I actually perfur you image over hers. Good Framing!

  3. I love how you put your own spin on the photograph but stayed true to Jan Groover's style. It looks like you took her pictures and made them 3D.

  4. NICE!!! I like the composition... Not necessarily traditional and a bit 'unexpected' if you will. The fork off to the left actually really adds a lot I think. Dark ring around the plate is important too. Good job!

  5. I think the black and white works well, I would like to see a bit more of the lobster tail, but that is a very minor want. I think having a bit more sharpness throughout the image may have been good also. I think seeing the detail of the entire lobster tail would have been cool. I really like the idea behind this picture!

  7. I think your image is really interesting. It was tough for me to figure out what it was at first, which I think was because of the framing and use of black and white. I think both of those aspects added a lot to the photo. Good job!

  8. My favorite thing in this image is the fork. I can just barely see it in the corner and I think it adds something to the photo. I love color so I would have liked to see the image in color, but this works too.

  9. I think this most resembles the first photo. I do wish there was some color in it though. I do like how you added very little of the fork.

  10. The framing I think is very interesting compared to that of Groover's. I believe you did an excellent job with this recreation. I know you said you liked this better in black and white because that is what Groover mostly did, but I think playing around the with the levels of color could bring out a different side of this. In the end, great recreation.

  11. i like the closeup of the image. cutting off amd cropping the edges works well. the shadows really pop out.

  12. i like how you were able to transform the objects into shapes. the other interesting thing is that you are including bits and pieces of parts of the objects such as the fork, the corner of the plate, and the line in the bottom right corner. i think it might be interesting to see how this would look with desaturated colors like groover's first image. also, i wonder about bringing in one more shape element like a napkin to add an additional abstracted object and shape.

  13. I think that you got the whole idea of the photographer really nice. The framing is cool, although I'd suggest to make it even more surreal by making the objects larger or getting the camera farther from the subject.

  14. great tones and composition. it doesn't compare much to the original work, so great job! to mimic groover, i'd make the food easier to identify . . . i did not see the lobster tail until you told us.
